Although the PHS Philadelphia LandCare Program tackles blight in the City of Brotherly Love, the problem of vacancy is pervasive in cities, both large and small, around the nation.
To figure out how to scale this solution to cities of all sizes, PHS has conducted training sessions and workshops with city and nonprofit representatives from urban areas around the country including Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Indianapolis, Cincinnati, New Orleans, Houston, and Phoenix.
- Workshops typically cover two full days at our home base in Philadelphia.
- Over the course of the training, your staff will learn the ins and outs of the Philadelphia LandCare program, tour LandCare target neighborhoods, meet with community representatives, and hear from Philadelphia city officials and academic researchers who have been integral to the implementation and analysis of the program.
- PHS staff will then work with you to design a vacant land strategy for your city, including determining the scale of vacant land in your city and the issues associated with it, planning a pilot project, and designing an implementation process that will be feasible, fundable and scalable.
PHS staff are also available to come to your city for training sessions, which provide the opportunity for on-the-ground exploration of vacant land issues specific to you. For especially large teams that don’t have the resources to send a lot of people to Philadelphia, this can be a good option.
